UK security sources warn New IRA ‘still dangerous’ after MI5 operation


Security sources in the UK have warned that the dissident republican grouping known as the New IRA is ‘still dangerous’ despite the efforts of a targeted MI5 operation.

In August, eight men and two women were arrested as part of Operation Arabica, a joint initiative including the PSNI, An Garda Siochana and MI5 that targets the leaders of the New IRA.

All 10 suspects remain in custody under a range of 39 charges, including directing terrorism and conspiring to obtain explosives, namely semtex.
