Kansas: IED exploded in car in central Topeka apartment parking lot, authorities say

A preliminary investigation shows an IED was intentionally placed in a car’s passenger compartment Monday night, according to the Topeka Fire Department.

TPD was dispatched to the 4100 block of Southwest 6th St. to investigate a suspicious item found in a vehicle at the Chalet Apartments. The TPD Bomb Unit was brought in out of caution. The area was blocked off while they investigated.

The explosion was contained to the car, causing an estimated $1500 in damage, TFD said. No other damage was done to surrounding cars or property.
