Washington: Homemade explosive device discovered on West First Street in Aberdeen

The Washington State Patrol Bomb Squad secured a homemade explosive device that was discovered Tuesday in the 500 block of West First Street in Aberdeen.

Aberdeen Police Cmdr. Dale Green said officers arrived at the scene around 2:44 p.m. and “determined the device was homemade in nature and appeared to have been attempted to be lit.”

Officers secured the area and called in the bomb squad, which identified the item as an improvised explosive device “capable of doing harm,” said Green. “The investigation is ongoing and forwarded to Aberdeen Police detectives.”
