UK: Two new cases of Clade lb mpox detected


Two new cases of a strain of mpox that is thought to be more transmissable have been detected in the UK, the Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has said. This brings the total number of confirmed cases of the Clade lb mpox strain in the country to three. The new cases are household contacts of the first case which was detected in the UK last week.

The UKHSA said the risk to the UK population “remains low” and that the two patients are currently under specialist care at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London. The first case was detected in a person who had been on holiday in Africa and travelled back to the UK on October 21.
