UK: Controlled explosion of Second World War mortar found near beach in Hampshire


The Navy has confirmed that a suspected bomb found by a metal detectorist was a wartime mortar. On August 24, a metal detectorist came across a suspected bomb at Taddiford Gap in Lymington.

The metal detectorist, Jack, found it at around midday and immediately called the police. Along with bomb disposal teams, police officers secured and cordoned off the scene. The Royal Navy then assisted with carrying out a controlled explosion.
