A man has been arrested after armed police, bomb disposal squads and snipers descended on a police station in West Sussex when a suspicious package was discovered this afternoon.
Officers surrounded the Burgess Hill Police Station in West Sussex after they received a call describing an unidentified package at 1.48pm.
Explosive Ordinance Disposal Teams immediately erected a 100-metre perimeter around the station to prevent any injuries in the case of an unexpected blast, as fire crews, armed police and paramedics also arrived on the scene.
We can now confirm the Explosive Ordnance Disposal has successfully destroyed the suspicious package found in The Brow, Burgess Hill, earlier today.
Final searches are being carried before the cordon can be lifted.
