What started as drug investigation in Annapolis County last month took a turn when investigators found an improvised explosive device among the drugs, cash and weapons in a car that they stopped with four suspects inside.
On Nov. 13, RCMP pulled over a vehicle on Main Street in Middleton during an ongoing drug investigation and arrested four people inside. Police saw drug paraphernalia in the car and found some on one the occupants, so were able to start a search of the vehicle for more drug items. Once they found a revolver and ammunition, though, they had to stop and seize the car, then get a warrant the next day to search the rest of it, Cpl. Chris Marshall said.
It was during that search that they found the IED. That stopped the operation until the explosive disposal unit could make sure the device was safe, Marshall said.
