‘Highly explosive’ ordnance found on Selsey beach

Bomb disposal experts have carried out a controlled explosion on multiple pieces of wartime ordnance found on a West Sussex beach.

The item was first discovered by a member of the public at Medmerry in Selsey on Monday afternoon.

Selsey’s coastguard team was called out at 1pm but the ordnance was well covered by the tide, meaning crews were stood down shortly afterwards.

They returned to the scene at just before 7.30am on Tuesday morning and discovered another items during searches of the area.
