Washington DC: Police negotiating with bomb threat suspect near Library of Congress

U.S. Capitol Police say a man claiming to have a bomb drove his pickup truck onto the sidewalk in front of the Library of Congress Thursday morning, spurring an “active bomb threat investigation” and a widening evacuation of Capitol Hill.

In a brief news conference shortly after noon, U.S. Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger said the man drove a black pickup onto the sidewalk about 9:15 a.m. Thursday and told officers he had a bomb. One officer observed what appeared to be a “detonator” in his hand.
