UK: Man arrested under terrorism act after bomb squad carry out controlled explosions at Darwen train station

A man has been arrested under the terrorism act after carrying a suspicious package onboard a train in Lancashire.

Emergency services were called to Darwen train station at around 3.20pm on Monday.

The station was evacuated and closed off following reports that a ‘suspicious package’ had been discovered. A bomb disposal unit carried out two controlled explosions but police say the items were not deemed a viable threat.
