Three al-Shabaab militants died on the spot after an Improvised Explosive Device they were planting along Bodhai-Baragoni road in Boni Forest, Tana River county exploded. It is alleged the explosives were strategically being planted to detonate on security officers patrolling the area.
According to a security brief sent to Vigilance House on Thursday, June 13, the militants were planting the explosives between midnight and 2am A contingent of General Service Unit (GSU) officers from Bodhai camp was trailing the terrorists after receiving intelligence about their activities within Boni forest.
The police found two bodies at the scene of the explosion, the third body was found buried about 500 meters from the scene.
