Submarine killer Peter Madsen recaptured after reportedly trying to escape from prison with bomb threat

The Danish inventor serving a life sentence for torturing and murdering a Swedish journalist in a self-built submarine tasted freedom for about five minutes Tuesday when he escaped from his prison — but was quickly recaptured while carrying fake weapons, including a “bogus” explosives belt, officials said.

Peter Madsen was seen in dramatic video posted by the tabloid Ekstra Bladet surrounded by heavily armed police as he sat with his hands behind his back on a grassy patch at the side of a road less than a half-mile from the Herstedvester prison in Albertslund.
