Cpl. Jeremiah Welch was waiting to go inside. Someone had broke into a mine operation office and left a suspicious device strapped to the manager’s chair. It was his job to go in and check it out, while the rest of his team waited outside. This was the start of his latest bomb simulation.
With the help of investigators John Perkins and Lantz Smith, he geared up with an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) bomb suit and was ready to go. He entered the building – located at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Training Center – through the back door, went straight to the manager’s office with a tablet, which he used to take an X-ray of the device without touching it.
