Police detonate improvised explosive device in Vancouver


The Vancouver Police Department safely detonated an improvised explosive device in the city’s Chinatown district Tuesday night.

During a traffic stop near Columbia and East Pender streets, officers spotted what appeared to be fentanyl in plain view. While searching the vehicle, police located a suspected improvised explosive device.

Bomb disposal specialists were called to deal with the situation.

“This was excellent work by our frontline patrol officers to identify a dangerous situation and safely secure the area,” says Sgt. Aaron Roed, VPD.
