New Mexico: Explosive device discovered in Carlsbad home


Eddy County Sheriff’s deputies discovered an improvised explosive device (IED) while executing a search warrant at a Carlsbad residence on Wednesday.

Eddy County Sheriff Mark Cage said members of the Violent Crime Suppression Unit and Community Action Team were looking for firearms, ammunition and narcotics at the home in the 800 block of North Guadalupe Street.

However, when deputies discovered the IED agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the New Mexico State Police Bomb Squad were called for assistance, according to a news release stated.
