Basit Kalam Siddiqui (24), an operative of the ISIS ‘Voice of Hind’ module, was arrested from Varanasi. He was arrested in a case related to the conspiracy hatched by ISIS, to radicalise and recruit youth in India to wage war against the State by carrying out terrorist acts.
He is accused of giving training on making of explosives through several Telegram groups operated by him. He was also said to be in touch with ISIS handlers and “was indulging in content creation, publication and dissemination of ISIS propaganda through a magazine ‘Voice of Khurasan’.”
A NIA spokesperson informed that Siddiqui was trying to “fabricate an explosive ‘black powder’ and gain knowledge on the use of other lethal chemical substances to be used for the fabrication of improvised explosive devices (IEDs)” on the directions of his ISIS handlers based in Afghanistan.
