Former explosive detection dog Russell makes friends with schoolchildren and inspires future ‘Bobby’


A budding young cop was rewarded for his good behaviour with a trip to the police station to meet up with his favourite police dog.

Nine-year-old Bobby made firm friends with community engagement dog Russell after he came into his school in Sunderland to visit the pupils.

The adorable Cocker Spaniel, who became Northumbria Police’s first community dog in 2018 following his retirement as an explosive detection dog, was brought to The Link School in Sunderland in April and July by PC Sally College.
