Estonia: Stray drone from Russian airspace hit power station in Ida-Viru County


A stray drone coming from Russian airspace hit a chimney at the Auvere power station in Ida-Viru County in Estonia on Wednesday morning. “According to the current information, the drone was not aimed at Estonia,” press officer of the Estonian Internal Security Service Marta Tuul said in an email to POLITICO.

“Initial operations are being carried out, and the investigation will clarify the specific circumstances,” she added. Local authorities did not identify the unmanned aerial vehicle as Russian or Ukrainian. They confirmed no one was injured during the incident, that damage to the power station is limited and will not impact the Estonian energy grid.
