Cambodia: Government declares Phnom Penh mine-free


The government has declared Phnom Penh to be free of landmines, conveying that there will be no more casualties from ordnances in the capital.

The announcement was made yesterday at an official ceremony held at the Phnom Penh City Hall by the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA).

Senior Minister Ly Thuch, CMAA First Vice-President, said the issue of the threat posed by landmines and other explosive remnants of war (ERW) has been complicated due to Cambodia’s three decades of regional wars and internal conflicts.
