Cambodia has asked Russia to help train Cambodian peacekeepers on clearance of mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in order to further improve their capacity in UN peacekeeping operation, according to local media report.
Gen. Sem Sovanny, Director General of the National Centre for Peacekeeping Forces, Mines and ERW Clearance (NPMEC) made the request during his meeting with Lt. Gen. Yuri Stavitsky, Chief of the Russian Armed Forces’ Engineer Troops in Moscow, Russia.
Lt. Gen. Yuri Stavitsky spoke highly of long-lasting relations and good collaboration between the two countries in all sectors, especially in peacekeeping operations.
He also pledged to submit Gen. Sem Sovanny’s request to leaders of the Russian Ministry of National Defence.
