An anti-tank landmine exploded on Friday (Jan. 26) in Banteay Meanchey province’s Malai district killing one and injuring another seriously.
The official report states that two men drove a tractor into the forest on Friday morning (Jan. 25) to cut wood for charcoal production. They took a different route out of the forest and ran over a land mine. It exploded.
Cambodian Mine Action Center Director General Heng Ratana: “At the time of incident [9:30am] no one could reach the site as it is a remote area and still uncleared of landmines … This [landmine] is a remnant of the war. Let us promote peace and avoid war.”
