A live pipe bomb was found outside a Sacramento County elementary school Friday morning and disassembled, authorities said. A similar device was found near the campus earlier this month.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said in a tweet just after 7 a.m. that there was a “large police presence” in the 5700 block of Laurine Way, which is where Ethel I. Baker Elementary School is located.
The device was found in front of the campus.
The sheriff’s office said there was nothing attached to the device that could have detonated it remotely. But Kionna Rowe with the sheriff’s office said that from investigators’ standpoint “it is a real and working pipe bomb” and “could have posed a big threat.”
