Parks Canada employees located an improvised explosive device which had detonated within a garbage receptacle near Carrot Creek in Banff National Park on February 26.
The Banff RCMP recovered the device and are investigating the incident. They said the device that caused damage to the bin was of the type commonly referred to as a pipe bomb.
The RCMP and Parks Canada stated that since finding the bomb they have checked numerous other garbage bins within the park and have not located any other devices.
