Police on Wednesday averted an attempt by insurgents to trigger major explosions in Guwahati after it recovered two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the capital city of Assam. The IEDs have been recovered from Pan Bazar and Paltan Bazar areas in Guwahati around 10:30 pm.
The city police recovered the IEDs on the basis of a confessional statement made by a militant of banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) who was arrested from Tinsukia district on Wednesday.
Top officials of Assam Police and other security agencies rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.
