“There are lots of children begging out in the cold. Our hospitals, especially the Anabah Maternity Centre in Panjshir, admit patients who are in a really poor condition. We see pregnant women in a precarious state.” said Emanuele Nannini, EMERGENCY’s Country Director who is based in Afghanistan.
“We still see the impact of landmines. We receive children who often pick up pieces of metal from the ground, with the intention to go and sell them. They get terribly injured, they lose hands, fingers – sometimes they are blinded by the explosion.”
“The damage done to Afghanistan over the past years will continue to affect the country for a long time.” Emanuele Nannini, Country Director in Afghanistan, joined a roundtable today to share the latest from EMERGENCY’s hospitals.
