Northern Benin faces the terrorist threat as jihadist groups based in the Sahel try to expand their actions to the Gulf of Guinea countries. To counter this threat and secure the borders, the Beninese army launched Operation Mirador in early 2022, deployed in the northern departments of the country. They recently agreed to take several media outlets with them, including RFI.
“There should be an excellent cooperation with neighbouring countries”, said a Beninese officer. With the Burkinabe military, Benin is exchanging information and wants to formalize a right of pursuit in Burkina Faso, from which some of the infiltrations on its soil come. Discussions have already begun when President Patrice Talon visited Ouagadougou earlier this year.
