What the shell? Army bomb squad rush to make explosive World War II mine safe after its found in waters off Kinsale, Co Cork

An explosive device, thought to be a mine from World War II, was discovered in waters in Co Cork this evening.

The army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called to the scene after fishermen brought the shell ashore in Kinsale.

The mine was placed on the main slipway of Kinsale Pier which was cordoned off by Gardai.

The bomb squad then made the device safe before the area was reopened.

The Kinsale Yacht Club had warned people to avoid the area until it was dealt with.
