A military bomb disposal unit was called to carry out a controlled explosion after more than 100 items of ordnance washed up on the beach.
The callout on Wednesday came after the discovery of the find by a Fisheries Officer on the beach north of Millom.
Millom Coastguard’s station manager John Whitford said: “On arrival on scene the team confirmed the item as ordnance, and Bomb Disposal contacted.
“When the Royal Logistics Corps EOD Team from Catterick Garrison attended it was decided that a full clearance was required. To this end the team deployed the following day to assist the EOD team.
