UK: Man arrested in Manchester for making explosive device


A chemical substance incident which sparked a major emergency response in Manchester’s Gay Village is not being treated as terror-related, police have said.

One man was arrested on suspicion of making an explosive device after the chemical substances were uncovered in a hotel room on Canal Street yesterday (May 11). The hotel was evacuated as the chemicals and ‘items’ within the room were assessed by specialists.

In an update issued this morning (Tuesday) a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said the incident was not believed to be terror-related. The arrested man remains in custody this morning for questioning.
