Security chiefs and experts from the Intergovernmental Authority of Development (IGAD) and member states converged in Kampala on Tuesday to chart possible ways of collaboration to combat threats posed by the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
The IGAD director of Security Sector Programme, Abebe Muluneh; Uganda Police Counter Terrorism director, Abas Byakagaba and representatives from other member states were joined by the IGAD chairperson, Mohamed Hussein Ahmed (Sudan Foreign Affairs Minister and project chief, Mahboub Maalim for the 3rd Regional Technical Committee Meeting on Development of a Regional Strategy to prevent, counter, and respond to the threat of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the region.
The meeting underscored the continuous sophistication of the IEDs in terms of the size, materials and the impact.
