Security forces are on high alert after finding banners displaying anti-government messages and objects resembling improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at multiple locations across the province.
Officials believe it was an attempt to stoke unrest ahead of Sunday’s general election. Provincial police commander Pol Maj Gen Prayong Kotsakha said police stations in nine districts had received reports about a total of 24 banners being hung up in 17 locations, including Muang, Yi-ngo, Sukhirin, Cho Airong, Rangae, Sri Sakhon, Tak Bai, Sungai Padi and Chanae districts.
