South Africa: Woolworths hit by explosive devices amid attacks on shops


South African retail giant Woolworths confirmed on Friday that improvised explosive devices had detonated at two of its stores, causing extensive damage.

According to a company statement, the first device exploded at the Menlyn Park store in Pretoria on Thursday, followed by a second blast at the Preller Square branch in Bloemfontein on Friday.

Woolworths said no injuries were reported in either incident, noting that both explosions occurred during the early hours of the morning when the stores were closed.
