Somalia: More than 20 killed in al-Shabaab attack in Mudug


At least twenty were on Sunday killed and more than thirty others injured after al-Shabaab attacked a military base in Somalia’s central region.

According to officials and witnesses, Al-Shabaab used a Vehicle Borne Improvised Device (VBIED) to breach the gate of the base before heavily armed fighters engaged the soldiers.

“At around 4:30 am, as the soldiers were preparing for the morning prayers, al-Shabaab ambushed them and started with an explosion,” Major Mohamed Mire Mohamud, deputy police chief of Galmudug said, claiming “But they suffered casualties.”
