Papua New Guinea: World War 2 bomb explodes in Madang


An old World War II bomb exploded at Bilia Maus Rot settlement in Madang Town last night, causing widespread fear among residents.

The blast, which occurred around 9:30 pm, was so powerful that it was heard across the town and nearby villages, with some mistaking it for a volcanic eruption, according to Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Acting Superintendent Robert Baim. Authorities confirmed the explosion originated about 100 meters from the Ward 8 councilor’s residence.
