A barrister representing a man accused of terror offences said the allegation against his client was that he was “the New IRA’s chief bomb maker over a span of quite a few years”. Barrister Joe Brolly, who represents Kieran George McCool (55), made the comment during the defendant’s preliminary enquiry hearing before District Judge Barney McElholm at Londonderry Magistrates’ Court.
McCool, from Ballymagowan Gardens in the Creggan area of Derry, faces charges of possessing with intent three improvised explosive devices. He is also accused of acquiring and possessing explosive substances and components, preparing for acts of terrorism and possessing articles for use in acts of terrorism.
