An unsuspecting customer used an ATM that had unexploded pipebombs nearby after a failed attempt by thieves to blast it open.
Police found seven pipe bombs at the scene of an attempted heist on a Hamilton mall ATM.
Hamilton City Area Commander Inspector Andrea McBeth said that NZDF bomb disposal experts recovered five unexploded pipe bombs from the scene at Chartwell Shopping Centre on Thursday. One had partially detonated.
