Moroccan security chief warns of terror ‘time-bomb’ in the region


Khiame warned that ISIS “has developed in the Sahel-Sahara region, with the conflict in Libya and in countries like Mali which do not control their security”.

SALE, MOROCCO – The Sahel region of Africa is a ticking “time bomb” of terrorism and organised crime, said Morocco’s security chief,  Friday, a day after a suspected Islamic State (ISIS) group-affiliated cell was busted.

The Moroccan security official’s statement came as elsewhere in North Africa, Tunisian authorities announced Friday the dismantling of a nine-member cell which plotted to establish a foothold for ISIS in the Tunisian southern city of Gafsa.
