MINUSCA Commends The Actions Of The Indonesian Engineer Battalion


215 peacekeepers from the Indonesian Engineering Company, deployed in CAR, were awarded the UN Medal on 17 August 2022 during a ceremony also marking the 77th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence.

This eighth engineer battalion arrived in the Central African Republic in November 2021 and has as its main task the construction and rehabilitation of roads and bridges in hard-to-reach areas to optimize the deployment of the Force to enable it to achieve its mission of protecting civilians.

With the emergence of the new threat posed by mines, this battalion, which includes a team of explosives experts, has carried out several road clearance missions in different locations in the Central African Republic. Recently, Indonesian peacekeepers neutralized unexploded rockets in Boali and destroyed obsolete ordnance and other explosive devices collected during disarmament operations at Camp Kassai in Bangui.
