Mali: 2 Peacekeepers Killed, Several Wounded In Deadly Mine Incident In Gao


An armoured vehicle of a MINUSMA logistics convoy struck a mine on the Tessalit-Gao axis.

According to an initial assessment, two peacekeepers succumbed to their injuries, and five others were seriously wounded as a result of this attack. A rapid response force was dispatched to the scene and the wounded were evacuated.

MINUSMA strongly condemns this attack, which may constitute a war crime under international law, and notes with concern the frequent use by terrorist groups and elements of improvised explosive devices aimed at paralyzing the Mission’s operations and obstructing the return to peace and stability. Mines and improvised explosive devices in Mali indiscriminately affect United Nations personnel, the Malian Defence and Security Forces and the communities we serve.
