Kentucky school employee injured after explosive device put on toilet


A school worker in southeastern Kentucky has filed a lawsuit against his district and three coworkers after allegedly being injured by fireworks in an act of “horseplay” while he was sitting on the toilet.

Daniel Rice, who worked in maintenance for the Corbin Independent School District, alleges in the suit filed Oct. 28 in Whitley Circuit Court that his supervisor and two coworkers “manufactured an improvised explosive device (‘IED’) fueled by several firecrackers” and placed it on a school toilet so that it would go off when he sat on it.

The device went off as intended, the suit says, and Rice suffered bruising and burning, as well as dysfunction and temporary impotence. The suit also alleges post-traumatic stress and anxiety as well as embarrassment, anguish and suffering.
