An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted on Srinagar-Baramulla highway near Putkha area of Sopore subdivision was recovered and defused by the security forces and police on Saturday morning.
A police official said that the security forces from 52 Rashtriya Rifles detected the explosive device on Srinagar-Baramulla highway near Putkha area, following which a bomb disposal squad (BDS) was summoned to the spot.
The police official said that the device was destroyed through a controlled mechanism by the bomb disposal squad.
The recovery of the IED prompted the authorities to halt the vehicular movement as a precaution on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway.
