The Army will splash out up to €1.35million on a new landmine clearing machine amid calls from Ukraine for Irish help in removing hidden Russian explosives.
The mine clearance vehicle will be used by the Defence Forces to deal with devices both at home and abroad where Irish soldiers have developed a reputation as world leaders.
Defence Minister Simon Coveney revealed that Ukraine had made an official approach for help in training its soldiers in removing Russian mines from battlefields.
