Iowa: Johnston man charged with making improvised explosive found earlier this month in Ankeny


Federal authorities say a Johnston man has been charged in connection to an improvised explosive found and disarmed in Ankeny earlier this month.

Chad Allen Williams, 46, was arrested Friday and is charged with unlawful manufacture and possession of an explosive device, according to a Tuesday press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.

The investigation arose from an explosive device found in the middle of Waywin Drive in Ankeny on the morning of June 9. The device was found by an 8-year-old girl and was disarmed by Ankeny Police and the Iowa Fire Marshal’s Office.
