There’s a new security headache for forces battling Maoist insurgency in Chhattisgarh: empty beer bottles. In an intriguing development, security personnel, on Monday, recovered and defused ‘bottle IEDs’ — crude bombs packed inside empty beer bottles.
The bottles rigged with explosives were planted by Maoists at Indravati National Park in the insurgency-hit Bijapur district of Bastar region. Sharing further details on their find, the police said the ‘bottle IEDs’ are easy to pack and plant, adding that the potential impact is even more as the glass shards can inflict severe splinter injuries and burns.
