India: Kerala’s Ernakulam district blast caused by IED or IID


The blast during a Christian prayer meeting in Kerala’s Ernakulam district on Sunday, which killed one person and injured 36 others, was caused by an improvised explosive device, or IED, said the state police chief. But, according to highly placed sources, investigators are also looking at the possibility that an “incendiary device” – improvised incendiary device or IID – was likely used.

One suspect from Gujarat has been detained in connection with the incident, which has been designated as a terror attack but there are conflicting reports on the number of explosions that took place. State ministers VN Vasavan and Antony Raju said there were two while Congress MP from Ernakulam, Hibi Eden said there were multiple blasts as per eyewitness accounts.
