On Monday, February 10, 2025, at about 12:23 p.m., patrol officers responded to the area of Honoapiilani Highway near mile marker 16 in Lahaina regarding a fire-related type case.
Upon arrival, officers observed a metallic object emitting smoke on the shoreline. The object was observed to have markings that indicated “Phosphorus” contents and to “notify Police or Military.” Further observation revealed additional markings that read “US NAVY MARKER LOCATION MARINE MK 58 MOD 1.” Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) was contacted. The object was rendered safe for transport and was taken into MPD custody, awaiting Navy EOD arrival.
