A group of children fell on a grenade on Friday on the beach at Vaux-sur-Mer. A demining team from La Rochelle intervened to get rid of the device.
It is a find that could have turned into a tragedy. On Friday, children discovered a grenade while playing in the sand, on the beach of Nauzan, in Vaux-sur-Mer, reports France Blue La Rochelle. They even started to play with it when the explosive device started to smoke.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 8 p.m. Quickly, they were even joined by a mine clearance team from La Rochelle. “La Maison Blanche”, a restaurant near the beach, was even evacuated for security reasons. “Everyone waited outside for the deminers to do their job,” the mayor told local radio.
