What began as a shelter-in-place over the weekend in unincorporated Boulder County has now shifted into an active investigation. The Boulder County Communications Center got a call reporting a suspicious item just after 8 a.m. Sunday, from a passerby near Ponderosa Way.
Authorities say the caller had opened a metal case near the road and found five suspected improvised explosive devices or IEDs inside. From noon until about 7 p.m. while bomb technicians from the Boulder County Regional Bomb Squad worked to secure the scene. By Sunday evening, the devices had been transferred to a containment trailer and moved to a secure location.
