Reiterating its support to the efforts of authorities to make Cambodia a mine-free nation by 2025, the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) has pledged to clear more than 265 square kilometres of landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXOs) this year.
On Saturday, Heng Ratana, director general of the CMAC, said that in continuation of its successful demining mission in 2022, the Centre will continue clearing the mines to provide safe land for farmers to cultivate in 2023 as well.
He said that in order to achieve the goal of a mine-free Cambodia, his organisation will commit to increasing the clearance capacity of more than 265 square kilometres (26,500 hectares) of landmines and unexploded ordnance this year.
