Cambodia: Alert sounded as floodwaters sweep up buried explosives

Mine clearance officials have warned people in flood-affected areas of new dangers from unexploded explosive ordnance and landmines.

The Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA)  called  on authorities to take intensive measures after the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology’s reported the potential flooding caused by Bavi T2609 and Haishen T2611 storms.

Ly Thuch, first vice president of CMAA, said the flooding made demining harder and could bury explosive ordnance deeper into the soil or move it from surveyed locations to unknown ones.
